The 2023 Manly Warringah Sea Eagles Indigenous Round jersey boasts an intricate artistic design by Aleta Wassell. Aleta is a proud Aboriginal woman with ancestral ties to the Darkinjung people and is a local Northern Beaches performer, artist and creator.
This artwork features three circular layers of roots meeting in a central ring that represents a gathering and coming together for the Indigenous round. The interlaced root system honours an ongoing connection to Country and symbolises the many different experiences of Indigenous Australia’s past, present and future. It also recognises the diversity within the Manly Warringah Sea Eagles community and the different journeys each person has travelled to come together for the NRL. The white circle of lines and dots inside the central ring showcases the traditional method of creating sandstone rock engravings. This is a key artistic feature celebrating the many rock engraving sites on the Northern Beaches and recognises their significance as one of the main artforms for Aboriginal people within the Sydney Basin.
