Dynasty Sport & the Cronulla Sharks, “Coming Together”

The Cronulla Sharks Round 12, NRL fixture against the Broncos in Brisbane will see the Sharks run out wearing a specially created Indigenous Jersey which is aimed at bringing people and communities together.

Entitled “Coming Together”, the Sharks 2020 Indigenous Jersey has been designed by renowned Indigenous artist Alara Geebung (Cameron) with the intricate artwork a direct reconnection to the ways of “our old people”, it’s an illustration which also represents a oneness with mother nature and equanimity of mind.

“Most importantly I use art as a healing tool through stories of the ways of our old people. Not only does it help me to heal, but it helps others through my work as a youth worker and AOD/Mental Health worker in the community as well as anyone else I get the opportunity to share with on my travels.” Alara said.

The Dynasty Sport design team worked closely with the Sharks and Alara to ensure all elements of the 2020 jersey design were represented and respectfully portrayed across the on-field and merchandise items. Dynasty Sport Managing Director, Tyler Rakich is confident it’s a jersey Sharks fans will be extremely proud of.

“Alara is an incredibly talented artist and we have very much enjoyed working with the Coming Together artwork to create a stunning garment for what is a very special round on the National Rugby League calendar.”  Rakich said.

The night sky spirit animals represent and pay tribute to the players totems and the oneness between spirt and sky to land and sea. Through dreamtime stories, the nation’s first peoples, and widely respected by the wider community, as a symbol of Australia, the Southern Cross features as a connection between both cultures.

The Shark, a natural predator, understands the requirement to be a leader in openness and equanimity and on this year’s jersey, the shark welcomes all from other regions into his home (the club) the meeting place.  The Seashells represent “Kurranulla” the home of the Sharks, while the blue lines represent the water current and the ever-changing flow of nature.

The moon “Grandma” is shining across the jersey with her loving, calming rays, while the border represents Cronulla’s iconic sand dunes, the scene of pre-season pain and commitment by Sharks 2020 playing squad.

The Cronulla Sharks 2020 Indigenous Jersey will be available for a 2-week pre-order window through the sharksstore.com.au with delivery shortly following the NRL Indigenous Round.
